AML – Anti Money Laundering
··· IMPORTANT NOTICE ···
The Department of the Treasury recently finalized a ruling stating that as of May 2, 2006, all life insurance companies must develop an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program that includes training for all licensed agents affiliated or representing insurance products for their firm.
The statute mandates that the AML program must include the availability of an anti-money laundering course which can be provided by the firm or a 3rd party, but must be approved by the contracted carrier. In conjunction with NAILBA & LIMRA, Professional Life Underwriters Services (PLUS) has provided you free access to an AML training program. This should fulfill this requirement with the following PLUS carriers:
- American General
- American National
- AXA
- Banner
- Genworth
- ING
- John Hancock
- Lincoln Benefit (Allstate)
- Lincoln National
- Mass Mutual
- MetLife
- Mutual of Omaha
- Nationwide
- Protective
- Prudential
- Sun Life
- Transamerica
- West Coast
Other PLUS carriers that are not listed above, have not yet communicated what they plan to do to complete this requirement. NAILBA & LIMRA expect that additional companies will be added to this list soon. We recommend that you complete the training anyway. As carriers sign on to this course they will be able to see that you have already completed the training.
AML Training Frequently Asked Questions.
Do I need to complete the training?
If you sell any plans that have cash value including whole life, universal life, variable life, annuities and return of premium. However,
some carriers are requiring that all appointed agents complete the training.
How long will the training take to complete?
Approximately 40 minutes (Initial training) and 10 minutes (Annual refresher).
How do I complete the training?
Visit our website at www.plusonweb.com.
1). On the left side Navigation, click "Appointments"
2). From The "Appointments Page" on the right side under Additional Related Links click "AML Training".
You will then be directed to the page to complete your AML Training.
What if I don't complete the AML training?
Then you are out of compliance. The insurance company could reject your business, hold your commissions, require you complete the
training before your policy is issued or ask you to complete it before you submit your next case (to name a few).
What if I want to write business with a company not listed above?
Each company can and may develop their own AML program. The company will notify you to let you know what they would like you to
complete.
How will the insurance company know that I've completed the training?
When you complete the training you must indicate what insurance companies you are appointed with. Doing this will allow the
companies that you've chosen to see that you've completed your training. You may need to periodically go back to the website and add
companies you become appointed with or wish to become appointed with. It would also be a good idea to print the completion page for
your own records.
What if I am not computer friendly?
Call your Relationship Manager or the PLUS Marketing Team at (800) 887-7587, Option 2. You can make an appointment to come into

What if I have already completed Anti-Money Laundering training for a securities license that I have?
Unfortunately, you will need to complete this training again for your life insurance license. We agree with you that the insurance and
securities industries should get together and develop a universal training but until then, this training should be completed.

LTC Agent Training Requirements
Long term care agent training has become more structured as more states pass the NAIC LTC Training Model regulation, and also as a result of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 which allows states to determine their own agent training requirements as they implement LTC Partnership programs. The website link below will allow you to look up your state's requirements. If you sell in multiple states, please be aware of the non-resident state's requirement in addition to that of your home state. www.clearcert.com/regs.asp
For Michigan, where there is no mandated requirement yet, an accredited 8-hour LTC course is accepted by all carriers and can count toward your 24 life/health CE credits. To satisfy multiple state's requirements with a resident-state course, talk to the education provider first.
If you do not wish to take an 8-hour course until Michigan requires it:
